This research study posits that uncertainty surrounding the future direction of monetary policy is a critical determinant of volatility in government securities. In particular, it emphasizes that fluctuations in the policy rate often used as the primary instrument of monetary authorities play a significant role in shaping bond market behavior. Changes in interest rates directly influence bond yields, pricing, and investor expectations, thereby increasing the sensitivity of government securities to perceived policy shifts. The study further explores how uncertainty in key macroeconomic indicators, such as inflation (as measured by the Consumer Price Index and GDP deflator), real output, unemployment levels, and nominal gross domestic product, interacts with monetary policy signals to amplify volatility in the bond market. In this context, uncertainty does not merely reflect a lack of clarity but acts as a transmission channel through which expectations about future economic conditions are continuously revised, thereby intensifying fluctuations in government security valuations. Moreover, the study argues that the relationship between monetary policy uncertainty and government security volatility is both significant and directional. Specifically, it finds that the causal link predominantly runs from government security volatility to monetary policy uncertainty, suggesting that instability in the bond market may itself influence how economic agents interpret and anticipate policy decisions. These dynamic underscores the feedback loop between financial markets and policy frameworks, where heightened volatility in government securities can signal underlying economic instability, prompting greater uncertainty about future policy actions. Consequently, the bond market becomes not only a recipient of monetary policy shocks but also an informative predictor of broader economic uncertainty. This insight is particularly important for policymakers and investors, as it highlights the need for clear communication and credible policy frameworks to mitigate excessive volatility and enhance market stability.
